Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss chicken pieces with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Dip each piece into beaten eggs, then set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Fry chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, then sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
- Pour sauce mixture into the skillet and bring to a simmer, stirring to combine and thicken slightly, about 2-3 minutes.
- Return fried chicken to the skillet, tossing to coat evenly with the sauce.
- Cook for an additional minute to let flavors meld.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
